We are so grateful to David Evans for writing down his memories of a school visit to the Ovaltine Factory in Kings Langley in the 1940s.
As far as my aged memory will take me, here are a few things I can recall from those dim and distant days.
Huge machines clanging away spewing out biscuits onto large conveyor belts with young ladies in white coats and hats in attendance.
Large vats the purpose of which I cannot recall.
We were taken to the rear of the factory to watch a barge being loaded or unloaded onto the Grand Union Canal.

The overall cleanliness of the factory in general was impressive for even one so young as myself, for that still lives with me.
We were taken to what was I presume the canteen, sat down to lemonade and cakes and duly presented with a neat presentation box containing a packet of delicious Ovaltine biscuits and a jar of Ovaltine.
I knew that the Ovaltine biscuits were delicious because our next door neighbour worked at the factory and frequently let us have some.
The lasting impression of the visit was most enjoyable, a whole lot better than sitting in a classroom.
I still however remember the Ovaltineys song. “We are the Ovaltineys Little Girls and Boys etc …’
