Loan boxes

Victorian School Days

Photo showing some of the contents of the victorian school loan box

This loan box will help teachers to illustrate what life was like in the Victorian era. The box explores how objects can evoke a variety of lives and attitudes, from the candlestick holder used before the onset of electricity to the glove stretchers used to accompany what once were an everyday item of wear to a Victorian iron which demonstrates the development of technology over time.

It also features Victorian costumes which prompt questions regarding the differing social classes in Victorian Britain, from the apron which would have been worn by a maid to a top hat worn by a gentleman of standing.

The box includes suggested ideas and resources for activities which range from the making of a thaumatrope to role play job descriptions.
