Dacorum Heritage Network
The Dacorum Heritage Network launched at the Dacorum Heritage open meeting of 18th November 2021. The first meeting of the Network took place on 15th December 2021. A network for any organisation or individual practitioners and artists with a community based in the Borough of Dacorum, with a heritage link or not, to connect and work together to inspire communities through local heritage. Actively engage in collaborative projects. The aim to share information and advice on audience engagement, collections management and funding.

Local groups and History Societies

Dacorum Heritage care for the collection of 9 groups and local history societies their collections are described below:

Berkhamsted & District Archaeological Society

The collection contains archaeological finds, excavated in the area of and the surrounding area of Berkhamsted. This includes the archaeological finds discovered in 1972 at Cow Roast and artefacts such as coins from Northchurch Roman Villa.

Berkhamsted Local History and Museum Society

Here objects and photographs are cared for which illustrate the way of life of the people of the historic parishes of Berkhamsted, Northchurch, Bourne End, Nettleden and Potten End. This ranges from early history of Berkhamsted Castle to industrial history of Coopers.

Berkhamsted Town Council

The collection contains a small selection of photographs of the town and watercolours painted by local artist, Harry Shelden.

Dacorum Borough Council

The council’s collection contains items which relates to the history of the Council. There is a separate archive at The Forum, managed by the staff at DBC. The Collection at the museum store includes the paintings depicting the Story of Robert snooks and also a large archaeological collection which consists of the finds from Gadebridge Roman Villa.

Flamsted Local History and Museum Society

Items which reflect the life of the people in the village this includes agricultural material, World War Home Front items including an ARP wardens Armband.

Graham Greene Birthplace Trust

This collection relates to the life and work of the author, who was born and went to school in Berkhamsted. Most of the material in this collection is from the annual Graham Greene Festival, including photos and audiotapes.

Hemel Hempstead Local History and Museum Society

A collection which relates to the history of the town, the strengths of the which include a archive of photographs and documents relating to the development of the New Town. It also covers the area of the former borough of Hemel Hempstead plus the parish of Great Gaddesden.

Kings Langley Local History and Museum Society

The Society’s collection covers the area of Kings Langley and Chipperfield in addition to Abbots Langley and Hunton Bridge. One strength of the collection is costume and textiles. The collection also includes finds from the Kings Langley Royal Palace and Friary.

Tring and District Local History and Museum Society

A collection relating to the history of Tring, covering also Aldbury, Cow Roast, Long Marston, Puttenham, Wigginton and Wilstone. The material includes military medals and items of everyday life such as a butlers bell board which was made at Grace and Sons.
